Internships at YES!

Positive Futures Network, publisher of YES! Magazine, is looking for interns. We have internships available for qualified individuals in the editorial department, the web team, the education department, and in the media & outreach department. Each internship offers a valuable work experience in a supportive and motivating work environment.

"The great thing about working as an editorial assistant for YES! is that it's more than an internship. Yes, I've learned a lot about the workings of a nonprofit, and even more about the publication of a quarterly magazine. I've had opportunities to write, research, contribute photographs and artwork to the magazine, attend outreach events, create reader surveys, participate in weekly editorial meetings as well as board meetings, and witness the delicate process of editing articles until both the staff and the authors are happy with the finished product. It has been a highly intellectually stimulating internship in that sense.

"But YES! also provides a new lens through which we can look at the world. It is both rational and hopeful, realistic and optimistic. It appeals to both the mind and the heart. My most treasured memories of my time at YES! pertain to my emotional involvement in the organization and its mission. It gave me a place to explore my passion for making the world a better place. I am more whole and more confident in my beliefs because of it. The deep commitment and enthusiastic energy of the staff is as inspiring as it is infectious. My time here has been absolutely invaluable."

—Catherine Bailey, Editorial Intern (August 2006-September 2007)

Benefits and Time Commitment:
Internships require an in-office time commitment of 30 hours per week, for a minimum of three months. Although interns are unpaid, PFN supplies housing in a four-bedroom house near the office. If an intern already has housing and will commute to the office PFN will reimburse their public transportation expenses. PFN provides temporary health insurance or else will pay for part of an intern's current health insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.

Intern Life:
Interns play an integral part in their department. Because of this interns are treated like temporary staff members. Supervisors are relatively flexible with interns' weekly schedules, understanding that interns may need to take on a part-time job or have other commitments.

Bainbridge Island is a 30 minute ferry ride from Seattle. The island is pretty mellow with limited cultural events, however it offers lots of great outdoor activities such as hiking, beach combing, and kayaking. Seattle on the other hand has pretty much every cultural and noncultural activity you can crave.
