Editorial standards

Short answer first

Every explainer opens with a short answer of one to three sentences, then goes into depth.

Sources

We rely on primary sources wherever possible: studies, official statistics, court records and the documents of the organisations involved. Every explainer lists its sources at the end. Figures carry the year they refer to.

Neutrality

We explain; we do not campaign. When an idea is contested, we present the arguments of supporters and critics in their own terms. We do not endorse parties, candidates or ballot measures.

Health and safety topics

Explainers that touch on health, such as pollution or veterans’ benefits, are general information and not medical or legal advice. We say when evidence is preliminary.

Review dates and corrections

Each explainer shows when it was last reviewed. If we get something wrong, we correct it and note the correction at the end of the page. Tell us via the contact page.

Independence

FutureNet carries no advertising tracking and accepts no payment for coverage in its explainers.
